Lecture: Let’s get dressed to take the photo! Vestiges of personal identities in Roman sculpture and painting.
By Montserrat Claveria Nadal, professor of UAB.
It is true indeed that in the Greek and Roman times photography did not exist, but there was the intention of commissioning an image of oneself, dressed in a certain way, which would serve to show oneself to others. In that period, sculpture and painting were widely used and appreciated means to make these images.
This conference will deal with the features and trends of Roman clothing through several painted or sculpted portraits of classical antiquity and will also talk about the informations that these images conveyed to the society of their time.
Free entry until seating capacity is reached.
