Exhibition Badalona and the Catalan patin

Until September 29th

18 July 2024 - 19:00 a 29 September 2024 - 14:00

Free entry with limited capacity

On the occasion of the celebration in Barcelona of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup, in which Badalona is the seat of some competitions, the Museum is dedicating an exhibition to the Catalan patin.

This boat has its roots precisely in our city, where it began to be used at the beginning of the 20th century. Later, the Mongé brothers, linked to the Badalona Swimming Club, developed the design that in 1943 would be adopted as the official model for competitions. In addition, in 1968, it would be a the Badalonian Antoni Soler, who would create the so-called junior Catalan patin of smaller dimensions, designed for children and teenagers.

Without the contributions from Badalona, then, sailing would not be as we know it today. But, apart from this fact, it is necessary to point out the role of some skaters from Badalona as prominent members of the International Sports Association of Sailboat Owners (ADIPAV) and also, logically, as regatta champions both in the area of Spain and Europe.

The importance and popularity of the sailing skate was highlighted in 2008, when it was recognized by the City Council as a genuine Badalona boat, and in 2010 when, in the context of Badalona being the Capital of Catalan Culture , was chosen as one of the seven treasures of the city’s cultural heritage, with which it also became a cultural heritage of the world.

Today, the practice of sailing regattas remains at the forefront of sporting activities in our town, where it gathers around the Club Natació Badalona, an organization founded in 1929, which has had and still has as partners the most notable skaters of the city.
