We invite you to discover the exhibition Mud and fire. Pottery in Baetulo with a free guided tour by the curator of the Museum, the archaeologist Esther Gurri.

Clay is an essential raw material for the manufacture of an infinite number of everyday objects and utensils, and Roman culture knew how to work with it both with great quality and in remarkable quantity. In this sense, Baetulo is no exception: there we find a good variety of pieces from the field of construction (antifixes, tiles,…), from the domestic world (pieces of loom, ares, lamps, crockery… .) or from the productive and commercial sectors (amphoras), which distributed products such as oil, wine or salting.

At the exhibition Mud and Fire. Pottery in Baetulo, you will be able to see a wide display of these objects – more than 200 -, from the Museum’s reserve and from the latest excavations carried out, both in the interior and in the suburbs of the Roman city. Through these pieces, many recently restored and which in some cases will be shown for the first time, we will go over the process of working with clay, from obtaining it to marketing and use, passing through the work in the potteries, and we will discover the true value of this seemingly humble material, so important in Roman Badalona.
