Acroterion
Acroterion
Acroterion made of Montjuïc’s sandstone, with a decoration inthe shape of stylized petals. It was found in the excavations of the Clos de la Torre carried out between 1934-36. It would be a piece that would decorate the angle of the upper part of a building or monument.
Acroterions are ceramic or stone pieces that decorate the upper parts of buildings. The ceramic ones are usually found on the porches of houses, but also in some public buildings.
Stone acroterions are found in public buildings, Greek temples are known, but we also find them in Roman temples, in the basilica, the curia or even funerary monuments. They are the decoration that finishes and decorates a building.
