The Population Census is the relationship of the demographic, economic and social data of a population, in this case, Badalona. The information collected – address, people’s names, sex, age, marital status, level of education and other economic data – changes little between the various censuses.

The first half of the 19th century, very turbulent, did not generate any census, although there was some attempt to do one, which did not bear fruit. In 1856, by decree, the General Statistical Commission of the Kingdom was established, which carried out, in 1857, the first population census that was carried out in this century. Subsequently, there were made other censuses in the years 1860, 1877, 1887 and 1897.

The population censuses preserved in the Historical Archive of the City of Badalona span from the 19th century to 1940. The ones that can be consultedonline are an incomplete census dated to the 19th century, and those from 1857 and 1860. The rest of the documentation census is of a statistical nature and, by the moment, is not available on the web.
