The Museum’s Image Archive holds and preserves photographs from a wide variety of sources. The archives of a photographer have particularities different from collections, the funds of companies and entities, etc.
The background of a photographer, in this case that of Josep Marco Gil, has images finished by the author, but also includes a lot of non-photographic material (sheets of specific negatives, notebooks with annotations of aperture, speed, etc.; posters of competitions in which he has participated…), which, once studied, informs about how the photographer works, why the runs he does, what interests him most…
In this case, for the gallery dedicated to Josep Marco’s photographs, we have chosen a few that we understand allow us to get an idea of how he worked with black and white photography, which is what he always liked to do. Josep Marco Gil (Badalona 1927-2002), was an amateur photographer, resident in Badalona, member of the Agrupació Fotogràfica Sant Joan Baptista de Sant Adrià de Besòs, an organization founded in 1949 still in operation today, under the name of ‘Photographic Grouping.
Whenever it is noted, we put the title that Josep Marco gave to the photograph.
