During many years – under the regime of Franco- the carnival was frowned upon and even prohibited by irreverent but after d’arrival of democracy, the city councils elected in 1979, started celebrating Carnival.
In 1983 the program was pretty busy and from 10th to 16th of February was quite full of activities: Arrival of the Carnival, Grand Parade, three dances, children’s carnival and a big party to celebrate Wednesday of ash with all the schools in the city.
