Lecture: Can Peixau, from Roman Villa to fortified tower. Recent developments in the territory of Badalona (1st-18th centuries)

Tuesday November 12th, at 7 pm

12 November 2024 - 19:00 a 20:30

Free entry until full capacity

During 2022, a preventive intervention was carried out in the Can Peixau area, located in the Raval neighborhood of Badalona. The archaeological antecedents of this space, which forms part of the inventory of the Catalan archaeological heritage, had been very fruitful since the first finds at the end of the 19th century. Therefore, an intervention was initiated in order to document the remains of a Roman villa documented as early as 1932 and 1958.

Archaeological work brought to light not only the remains of the Roman villa, but also documented a fortified tower from the end of the 14th century that was abandoned in the 18th century. In this place, later, the Can Peixau farmhouse would be built.

The results of this intervention are highly relevant for the knowledge of the medieval period in Badalona, a historical period about which we have very little data compared to other periods.

By Júlia Miquel, archaeologist from AGER, SL, and Clara Forn, archaeologist from the Badalona Museum.
